More than 40 years of hockey tradition in Germany
Speed, dynamics, emotions, great atmosphere and action – that’s hockey! In Cologne the fastest team sport in the world is inseparably connected with the name “Kölner Haie”. The KEC is one of Cologne’s cult-brands as well. The Haie are ready to attack the top during the season 2016/17. The team around the numerous national team players as Moritz Müller or Philip Gogulla and team members like Gustaf Wesslau or Patrick Hager are targeting the top!
The Kölner Haie are one of the top teams in the German Hockey League (Deutsche Eishockey Liga “DEL”) and also one of Europe’s most known hockey brands. Hockey has a long tradition in Cologne. The track record of the Kölner Haie began when the club was founded 43 years ago. After it’s foundation in 1972 the KEC won the German championship eight times (last 2002) and played the playoff-final eight times as well (last 2014). 2004 the Kölner Haie won the national Cup-Competition. Internationally the Haie caused sensation by winning the Spengler-Cup in Switzerland (1999), the Tatra-Cup in Slovakia (2011) and the European-Cup medals (silver 1985 and 1996, bronze 1989).
The home games of the Kölner Haie are taking place in the breathtaking LANXESS arena. Since it’s opening in 1998 the Haie played more than 500 games in this gigantic arena. The LANXESS arena was the location where the World Cup matches in 2001 and 2010 were played and it will be the main place for the upcoming World Cup in 2017 also. More than six million fans have been watching the games of the Haie in the arena. That’s an average of 12.000 fans per game since 1998. The record was reached during the final game against Mannheim in 2002 when 18.700 people were watching the game.
