RheinEnergieMarathon Köln 2017

RheinEnergieMarathon Köln 2016, Philipp Cielen

On October 1 Cologne will be the runners’ city

21 years of marathon and 12 years of half marathon in town

The history of success began with a world record in 1997: No other marathon had more than 13,000 participants at its premier race. The finish next to Cologne Cathedral, a course through the typical Cologne city quarters, the cultural diversity, the Carnival-like atmosphere with hundreds of thousands of spectators along the course were and still are outstanding characteristics of one of the most beautiful marathons of the world.

In 2006 the half marathon was added to the agenda and developed to Germany’s #2. The portfolio was enlarged by the relay team marathon where 4 runners share the total distance of 42 kilometres. So it does not have to be a full marathon to enjoy the special Cologne feeling.

This year the runners and spectators will celebrate the 21st edition of the marathon and the 12th of the half marathon. All runners are welcome – it does not matter whether they are top athletes or “pleasure runners”, experienced sportspeople or rookies.
They all will await a well-tried mixture of elite sports and recreational sports, runners’ ambitions and Rhenanian cheerfulness, functional clothings and carnival costumes.

And via the social wall they all may involve themselves actively: They are just to post their own impressions and experiences of the race with pics and videos in one of the 3 social networks with the #koelnmarathon!
