Drawing in the lab

Exhibition
The sight of a drawing from the hand of a master like Rembrandt or Rubens is not only a treat for art connoisseurs. How this enjoyment can be enhanced thanks to the help of a microscope is shown in an exhibition at the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in winter 23/24: "Drawing in the Lab" presents the art-technological methods currently being used by a team of experts from the Cologne museum to examine almost a thousand Dutch drawings (15th to 19th century). The astonishing results of these diverse "autopsies" form the basis for further art-historical analysis of the still largely unexplored sheets from the museum's own collection.
