Tracing Jewish History from Roman Times to the Present Day
----------------------------------------------------------

Cologne’s Jewish history stretches back a long way: together with your group, you will trace more than 1,700 years of the city’s history—from Roman times and the medieval Jewish quarter to the present day. Discover why Cologne, home to Germany’s oldest Jewish community, holds such special significance.

The medieval Jewish quarter was once located in the historic City Hall district. Around MiQua – LVR Jewish Museum in Cologne’s Archaeological Quarter, archaeological finds tell stories of everyday life, culture, and religion. The mikveh dating from the 12th century—one of Germany’s oldest surviving ritual immersion baths—is an exceptional testament to this era.

This informative combines Cologne’s contemporary history with moving stories—from the first documented mention of Jewish life in 321, through the expulsion of 1424, to the community’s new beginning in the 19th century.
