The federal and state governments have agreed that contact restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic will be extended until 29 June. This includes that a maximum of ten people or members of two households may meet in public. Emergency care for children will be expanded flexibly and step by step. Visits to nursing homes and hospitals will be possible again. And the pupils will also gradually return to school life.
All shops are open after the compulsory break of weeks. Numerous weekly markets will offer crunchy fruit and vegetables, and hairdressers will take action. Taverns and restaurants are again allowed to offer their food and drinks on site. Fitness studios, dance schools and sports halls are open. Swimming pools (exception: pure fun pools) can be visited again from 20 May under certain conditions.
The Cologne Zoo, the municipal museums and the Chocolate Museum can be visited under certain conditions. Cologne's playgrounds are also accessible.
Since 11th May all restaurants are allowed to reopen, provided they have a hygiene concept and observe the distance rule. Within the state, NRW citizens may travel again. It is also possible to stay in holiday homes, holiday apartments and on campsites. Guided tours with a limited number of participants are permitted from now on. The opening of leisure parks and excursion boats are also permitted. Tourist information offices, bicycle and boat rentals are allowed to work again. Small meetings in suitable conference rooms are permitted.
Overnight stays in hotels by tourists living in Germany will again be possible in NRW. From 30 May, swimming pools, thermal baths, fun baths and wellness centres may also reopen, provided they comply with infection standards. Small group and bus tours will be permitted again.
Access to Brüsseler Platz and Rheinboulevard will be closed from 23 May until 5 June in the evenings and at night due to the high number of visitors on the previous days.
Since Monday, 11 May, smaller concerts and public events in the open air are permitted - minimum distances and masks required. Also in buildings, provided that the organisers' concept is agreed with the authorities in advance. Cinemas, theatres, opera houses and concert halls may open from 30 May with restrictions. The major theatres, operas and concert halls will not open before the start of the new season (1 September). Large events are still not permitted until 31 August.
It is important and a prerequisite for your visit that you comply with the strict hygiene regulations!
