Concerts etc. with industrial charm

Seeing your artist right up close, feeling the music, getting goosebumps — moments like these, as well as other intense emotions, are the stock in trade of Gebäude 9. It’s a local institution for concerts with a factory atmosphere, urban but familiar — and it’s also a nightclub with a frequently changing program of gigs. It can even be rented as an event venue for companies or private parties. If you’re looking for a choice selection of indie bands, international performers in the categories of singer/songwriter, avant-garde, electronic punk or indie rock performing here on a monthly basis, you’ll be in exactly the right place — swept along with as many as 400 kindred spirits from Cologne’s nightlife scene.

Located in a factory complex in Cologne-Deutz since 1996

This music and party venue for night owls is located in a former factory complex at Deutz-Mülheimer Straße 117, previously at 127–129. It’s in the trade fair district of Deutz, which is also the home of the broadcaster RTL and the Lanxess Arena . Here you can look out from a box to enjoy a panoramic view of the skyline of Cologne from the Rhine Boulevard in Deutz, even though Gebäude 9 is officially located in Cologne’s Mülheim district.

The programme ranges from indie to punk, avant-garde

For fans of the subculture who like the charm of aging industrial buildings (now renovated), Gebäude 9 offers an attractive venue for a thrilling concert evening or clubbing night. Whether you’re looking for small or midsized diversified concerts or drum ’n’ bass parties — and whether you’re coming by car or using the excellent local public transportation system — this is the place for you.

Gebäude 9 is a popular concert venue

Visitors describe Gebäude 9 in Deutz as a cool venue with a very casual atmosphere. You’re close to the performers, the sound system is designed for many different kinds of music, and there’s a constant stream of great performers. Good catering, ample parking space and easy access are further reasons for the venue’s popularity. Because it has room for “only” 400 guests, Gebäude 9 is regarded as one of Cologne’s smaller venues, but this only makes the atmosphere more personal and positively charged. Some fans even regard Gebäude 9 as Cologne’s best venue, as well as a real original.

Loved, rescued, awarded: the colourful history of Gebäude 9

At one point during its years of glory, this cult venue on the right bank of the Rhine was actually slated for demolition. It was saved from the wrecking ball by the peaceful resistance of fans from all over Germany, who signed petitions and made videos to support the survival of Gebäude 9 as a venue for outstanding events. For its contributions to Cologne’s music and event culture, Gebäude 9 has received a number of culture awards. Today it’s still a permanent feature of Cologne’s typical urban charm.
