A striking structure made of steel and blue membrane rises up right next to Cologne's central station: the Musical Dome. It has dominated the banks of the Rhine since 1996 and has developed from a temporary structure into a permanent stage for major musical productions. With 1,769 seats, a spacious glass foyer and integrated gastronomic offerings, the building functions as an urban cultural space that combines artistic impulses and urban dynamics.
Currently running is "Moulin Rouge! The Musical", which has been transforming the interior with a specially designed backdrop since 2022. After the dernière in summer 2026, a new production of "The Phantom of the Opera" will follow in the fall. This programmatic diversity shows how flexibly the Dome moves between pop culture, classic musical tradition and international show formats.
Productions through the ages
Numerous influential musicals and shows have been staged at the Musical Dome since the 1990s. Long-running productions include "Saturday Night Fever", "Jekyll & Hyde", "Bodyguard" and, above all, "We Will Rock You", which is considered the most successful production with around two million visitors. Guest performances such as "Cats", "Beauty and the Beast", "Thriller - Live", the Great Chinese National Circus and dance performances such as "Tap Dogs" have also used the Dome as a stage.Currently running is "Moulin Rouge!
