On 12 and 13 September 2026, Cologne’s history opens its doors: during the **Open Monument Day®**, more than 160 historic sites invite you to experience the city from new perspectives. Many places of historical interest that are normally inaccessible or only open to a limited extent can be explored free of charge that weekend.
Under the nationwide theme **“NetWORKS: Monuments & Infrastructure,”** the event highlights how closely Cologne’s architectural heritage, its more than 2,000-year history and everyday life in the city are interconnected. Discover historic streets, parks, bridges, city gates, churches and bunkers, as well as special sites including the Wallrafplatz Broadcasting House and the Baptistery.
Guided tours, discussions, lectures and musical performances turn a walk through the city into a journey across the ages—from Roman antiquity and the post-war period to the present day. It is a special opportunity to see familiar places in Cologne in a new light and discover the city’s hidden treasures.
