In bester Lage

A household caught between a never-ending construction site and the madness of everyday life

With “In bester Lage,” the Schauspiel Köln returns to Offenbachplatz and, to mark the reopening, brings to the stage a comedy about property, neighborhood life, and the realities of urban renewal. The play by Kristof Magnusson and Gunnar Klack tells the story of a building with ten condominiums, where very different lifestyles collide.

Here, investors, debt-free “rich kids,” constant noise-makers, and the nearly invisible live side by side. But living together becomes complicated when the roof doesn’t meet fire safety regulations, the stairwell isn’t wheelchair-accessible, the recycling bin overflows, and dilapidated water pipes can only be repaired with unanimous consent.

The result is a sharp comedy set in a building complex, where major social issues are reflected in the microcosm of a homeowners’ association. Amid investment backlogs, utility bills, balconies, solar panels, and neighbors united by necessity, “In Best Lage” reveals the global madness unfolding in an ordinary apartment building hallway.
