A Tribute to Frida Kahlo’s Boundless Zest for Life

Frida Kahlo was an artist, a style icon and a woman of extraordinary strength. Her work speaks of pain, love, self-assertion and an unwavering zest for life. With VIVA LA VIDA – A TRIBUTE TO FRIDA KAHLO, internationally renowned choreographer Enrique Gasa Valga honours her with an award-winning dance theatre production full of intensity and emotion. The production makes its North Rhine-Westphalia premiere at the opening of the Cologne Summer Festival 2027.

The Enrique Gasa Valga Dance Company tells the story of Frida Kahlo’s eventful life through 14 defining episodes. Inspired by her famous self-portrait “The Two Fridas”, the production creates a multifaceted portrait of a woman poised between outward strength and inner vulnerability, between passion, pain and an unyielding will to live.

Expressive dance, live music, Greta Marcolongo’s vocal performance and a vibrantly colourful set come together in a captivating artistic experience. The production celebrates the resilience of an extraordinary artist and the strength to embrace and celebrate life.
