PARK Café

Today, the PARK Café in Rheinpark once again combines historic architecture with contemporary use. The building was constructed in 1957 for the Federal Horticultural Show and features the characteristic kidney-shaped design language of architect Rambald von Steinbüchel-Rheinwall. The building stood unused for decades until it reopened in 2022 following a comprehensive restoration in accordance with historic preservation guidelines. The restoration precisely recreated the original color scheme and the lightness of the postwar design while also creating an accessible interior.

Since its reopening, the PARK Café has evolved in terms of its offerings. New operators have been running the café since 2025 and are focusing on a more modern concept that includes culinary updates as well as an expanded events program. An expanded food menu, a revised beverage selection, and a subtly brightened interior design bring the café in line with today’s culinary standards without compromising the building’s historical identity.

At the same time, a space is emerging that is culturally more vibrant than ever before. Plans include regular events such as exhibitions, workshops, readings, and smaller music and dance performances that take advantage of the location in the Rheinpark and reinterpret the building as an open platform. The large terraces and the view of the Rhine also make it suitable as an event venue for private and public occasions.

In this way, a former postwar pavilion is once again transformed into a vibrant gathering place that connects history, natural surroundings, and the urban present.
