Impressions
These 40 hectares of parkland stretch along the river Rhine between the boroughs of Mülheim and Deutz. In summer, this green oasis is ideal for relaxation or various sporting activities, such as inline skating, jogging, or ball sports on the gigantic lawns.
As early as in 1912, the park was landscaped for an exhibition and later extended in 1914 and 1928. In the aftermath of World War II, the Rheinpark was enlarged to its today dimensions on occasion of the first Federal Garden Show in Cologne. On occasion of its 50th anniversary, the park was nominated “The most beautiful German Park” in 2007.
Children are particularly attracted by the numerous playgrounds and the children’s train with a railway crossing and gate that have been lovingly integrated into the park. Young visitors, however, will even find a special youth centre, the Kölner Jugendpark, with an adjacent miniature golf.
Apart from that, the Rheinpark is home to the “Cologne Rhine Cable Car” Kölner Rhein-Seilbahn, which offers an unforgettable panoramic view of the Rhine for everyone. The Rheinpark is well worth a visit in the cold season of the year too: The Claudius Therme thermal spa, that was built according to Roman standards, invites to a relaxing bath and excellent wellness treatments.
