The cult pub in the Kwartier Latäng

The Stiefel, an unusual corner pub in the student neighbourhood of Kwartier Latäng on Zülpicher Straße, has become an indispensable part of Cologne's pub culture over the years. Known for its façade graffiti and laid-back 90s punk-style atmosphere, the pub attracts a predominantly student clientele. Guests not only enjoy the perfectly tapped Gaffel Kölsch, but also the opportunity to play against FC's arch-rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach at the foosball table or watch their matches live.

The morbid charm of the Stiefel, with its scrawled walls and crumbling plaster, has also attracted Hollywood. In 2014, scenes for the film "Autobahn" were shot here with stars such as Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley. The atypical pub atmosphere has cult status and is known far beyond the neighbourhood.

In 2012, the Stiefel was threatened with closure for a short time, but the current operator Stephan Freund breathed new life into the legendary pub. Since then, the Stiefel has once again become an integral part of the bar mile on Zülpicher Platz and even draws guests out onto the street in the summer months. Especially during the mega pub series Schnick-Schnack-Schluck, the pub becomes the centre of lively interaction.
