Haute Cuisine That Creatively Revives German Roots

In recent times, homeland has experienced a resurgence in many areas—not just as a concept, but as a feeling. At Maximilian Lorenz, this phenomenon extends to the culinary realm. Here, traditional German varieties and recipe ideas, such as blood sausage, veal marrow, or carp, are deliberately highlighted—reimagined and paired exclusively with German wines. This makes Maximilian Lorenz quite unique in the gourmet landscape of the cathedral city.

With an omnivorous or optionally vegetarian menu of six courses each, you follow Maximilian Lorenz on a journey through the rich and impressive flavors of the new German cuisine—each course: an independent, finely tuned composition.

When Tradition Dissolves to Be Reborn

The style and concept of his cuisine involve deconstructing flavors and recomposing them in new, surprising arrangements. This results in extraordinary combinations and aromas, where appreciation for each ingredient is evident, along with respect for German culinary tradition.

In the Middle of the City, a Place to Feel Comfortable at a High Level

The restaurant, accommodating 30 guests, is located in the heart of Cologne's old town, just a few steps from Cologne Cathedral. Inside, you will find a stylishly minimalist ambiance: wood, warm tones, clean lines, understated elegance, and sleek modern interior with floor-to-ceiling windows. The atmosphere is deliberately relaxed: comfort with style. In summer, the terrace opens up, also for cultural events like “Summer Wines.”

Exceptional Restaurants in Cologne? Maximilian Lorenz Ranks Among Them

Whether an intimate chef's table with a view into the kitchen for up to twelve people, the lunch spot “Street Kitchen” with healthy street food-style dishes, private candlelight dinners, or large events outdoors—Maximilian Lorenz is much more than a Michelin-starred restaurant. In its “Street Kitchen,” healthy eating meets fast-paced life: sandwiches, wraps, bowls, sushi, dumplings, and miso soup are on the menu—all freshly prepared, without refined sugar and flavor enhancers. The motto here is: healthy, sustainable, and delicious. Thus, Maximilian Lorenz has established itself in Cologne's fine dining scene—as an area of gourmet enjoyment and a platform for modern culinary formats.

Chef and Owner: Maximilian Lorenz

In his early twenties, Maximilian Lorenz earned his first Michelin star and 16 points in the Gault&Millau at the then L’escalier. Today, he is considered one of the most independent minds in German gastronomy, whose training began at the Hotel-Restaurant “Zur Post” in Odenthal. In 2018, he opened Maximilian Lorenz, which the Michelin Guide awarded a star just a few months later. As a trained chef and cellar master, he uniquely combines kitchen and cellar, allowing you to enjoy homeland love on all culinary levels.
