There are places where space, time, and tranquility come together, offering you an extraordinary meal and a very special evening, far beyond the ordinary. If this is exactly what you're yearning for, especially in times of compact spaces or tight dinner-time slots, make sure you visit Port-Langel on your next trip to Cologne and experience the gourmet restaurant Zur Tant.
Here, in a beautifully maintained historical half-timbered house directly situated on the idyllic banks of the Rhine, food connoisseurs from near and far have been gathering for around fifty years, letting themselves be inspired by culinary creations that reach for the stars—during summer months, even on the charming terrace.
In 1976 Franz Hütter took over the restaurant, developing it into a renowned gourmet hotspot through his creative Austrian-French-Mediterranean cuisine, even earning it a Michelin star. In 2014, the restaurant passed to Hütter’s long-time head chef Thomas Lösche, who since then has earned acclaim in the gourmet world with two red Gault&Millau toques (2023 edition) and three diamonds from the Varta Guide. Lösche reclaimed the Michelin star for Zur Tant in 2017, after the establishment had previously lost it.

Gasthaus Zur Tant: From the Grey Bun to Stars, Toques, and Diamonds
Initially, "Zur Tant" might sound somewhat old-fashioned—indeed there’s historical significance behind the name. The restaurant, first documented in 1849, was once reportedly managed by a single lady, perhaps even sporting a grey hair bun. Thus, villagers began saying: “Let's go to the aunt” (“Wir gehen zur Tant”). Although owners have changed over the years, the historical name remained. In 1976 Franz Hütter took over the restaurant, developing it into a renowned gourmet hotspot through his creative Austrian-French-Mediterranean cuisine, even earning it a Michelin star. The Cologne district Porz-Langel, situated directly along the Rhine, retains its charming village character to this day. First mentioned as “Langalon” in 965, its history actually reaches back to the late Roman era. Once known for its wines and its windmill, Langel today is cherished for its natural idyll with riparian forests and flood protection basins – and, of course, the acclaimed gourmet restaurant Zur Tant. You can wonderfully combine both – nature and the pinnacle of Cologne's culinary delights – right here.Piccolo
In the same building and under the same management, you'll also find the gourmet Restaurant Piccolo Rheinterrasse, offering a somewhat different culinary experience: classic, simpler cuisine including wild garlic or fish soups, free-range chicken, Berkshire pork, or semolina pudding with sorbet, all suited to a smaller budget.Useful Information
