Filmforum NRW

Cinema

Film history and contemporary film culture

A place where film history, artistic research and contemporary perspectives are interwoven. The Filmforum NRW has been an independent cultural space in the Museum Ludwig since 2006 and opens its cinema hall for festivals, premieres, programmatic series and discursive formats. The 257-seat auditorium and the adjoining foyer enable a variety of event formats that constantly explore how film can act as an aesthetic and social medium.

Program diversity and collaborations

A network of institutions such as the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln, the Kunsthochschule für Medien, WDR, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and other partners are responsible for shaping the content. This creates a dynamic space in which film education, artistic styles and cultural policy issues come together. For visitors, it opens up access to cinematic positions that go beyond the mere screening - for example through film talks, lectures or thematic conferences.

Access and participation

Tickets are issued at the box office, without advance booking. Induction loops are available for hearing-impaired visitors and access for wheelchair users is guaranteed. This conscious approach to participation shapes the character of the museum, as does the close connection to the Museum Ludwig, which has integrated film and video into its collection since its foundation.
