46. Rotkreuz-Matinée

Opera & Operetta

Music for a good cause

On the third Advent, December 14, 2025, the Cologne Opera will once again open its doors for the 46th edition of the Red Cross Benefit Matinee. This renowned event in the Staatenhaus combines artistic musical performances and social responsibility. For almost half a century, the opera ensemble's charity event has supported the emergency aid of the Cologne Red Cross. In a two-hour performance, soloists, soloists, the International Opera Studio and the large opera choir present an impressive repertoire ranging from opera classics to festive international Christmas carols. This artistic diversity will be reflected in the presentation by dramaturge Svenja Gottsmann, who will guide you through the morning with her eloquent expertise.

Part of the supporting program is an exquisite raffle with more than 500 prizes donated by companies and partners from the region. An unusual attraction for lovers of the stage arts is the sale of costumes from the opera collection. The proceeds from the matinee and the raffle are crucial to financing the Red Cross's emergency aid, which intervenes specifically and efficiently in cases of flight, homelessness or poverty in old age. This form of support illustrates the solidarity of the Cologne community and how cultural efforts can be transformed directly into help for those who need it most.
