The Cologne music scene will light up on October 11 at the Wallrafplatz broadcasting house with an extraordinary concert by the WDR Symphony Orchestra. The program of the "Music of the Time" series bears the fascinating title #THULIAN, which evokes associations of chromatic richness. Central is the work "Concert for Piano and Orchestra" by John Cage, which already questioned concepts of hierarchy in music in 1957 and is more relevant than ever today in times of dynamic social change. Pianist Paulo Àlvarez brings it to life with virtuosic precision.
Laure M. Hiendl's contemporary composition "the performance of a shift that could turn into a disturbance" brings a modern homage to artistic revolutionaries like Cage and Cunningham to the stage with the exceptional voice of Hélène Fauchére. The interweaving of late romanticism, represented by Richard Strauss, and today's sound research offers an intellectual reflection on continuity and rupture in music history. Finally, Sara Glojnarić's "Ding, Dong, Darling!" combines joyful energy with advanced technologies and embodies the principle of "Queer Joy". Under the direction of Bassem Akiki, an evening of concerts is created that stands out not only for its sonic diversity but also for its visionary programmatic.
