Arrival by coach
Germans drive on the right side of the road. Drivers and passengers must wear seatbelts. Compulsory for children are special car seats and appropriate restraints. It is prohibited to use a hand-held mobile phone or similar device when driving.
Bus stop and parking spaces
The previous bus stop for tourist coaches on Komödienstraße has been moved in 2020 to the nearby Gereonstraße. Tourist coaches will no longer be permitted to stop on Komödienstraße.
On special occasions, such as during the Cologne Carnival or for the duration of the Cologne Christmas markets, alternative concepts apply.
These will be listed here on our website as well as on the website „Parking coaches in Cologne" of the City of Cologne (available in four languages). Please inform yourself in time.
- Bus stop Gereonstraße
Passengers can be dropped off and picked up at the agreed time again on the central bus stop Gereonstraße (between Börsenplatz and the junction of Gereonstraße/Klingelpütz/Mohrenstraße). Coaches are allowed to stop there for a maximum of 15 minutes each time. The engine must be switched off while the coach is stopped.
Address for navigation devices: Gereonstraße 16, 50670 Cologne | Geo data: 50°56'35.7"N 6°56'55.3"E

- Parking facilities for coaches
For parking (free of charge), coach drivers must continue their travel to Cologne’s central coach parking place “Buspark Köln” on the Kuhweg road next to the Mülheimer Bridge. It is located in the district Cologne Riehl and has a capacity of around 80 parking spaces. This parking place is open 24/7 and it is not supervised (no security or similar). From the opposite tram station “Slabystraße”, Central Cologne is within easy reach by taking the tram line 18. The journey to Cologne’s central rail station, tram station Köln Hbf., takes about 10 minutes.
Address for navigation devices: Kuhweg 20, 50735 Cologne | Geo data: 50°58'06.4"N 6°59'22.5"E.3"E
A downloadable route map from the Gereonstraße stop to the “Buspark Köln” can be found on the website „Parking coaches in Cologne" of the City of Cologne, as well as information on alternative bus parking spaces (charges apply).
- Special occasions
On special occasions, such as during the Cologne Carnival, the Marathon or the duration of the Cologne Christmas Markets, there will be deviations from the outlined concept.
As soon as we have the relevant information, we will publish it here on our website.
Please inform yourself accordingly in time here or on the website „Parking coaches in Cologne" of the City of Cologne - Breslauer Platz
Please note that the bus stop places at Breslauer Platz are reserved exclusively for public transport vehicles. Tourist coach drivers may stop at the bus stop at Gereonstraße to pick up or drop off their passengers there. Tourist coaches which stop at Breslauer Platz could be reported to the police and might face charges.
Advent season 2023: Alternative traffic concept for touring coaches
Die In 2021, the city of Cologne introduced a new concept for touring coaches during the Advent season.
For the period from November 30 to December 23, 2023, special regulations apply to the arrival and parking of coaches and the onward travel of coach passengers to the city centre:
- Arrival in Cologne: Arrival at the Koelnmesse car park P22 in Cologne-Deutz
- Parking: A paid parking space must be booked (online in advance or upon entry to the car park P22). As the parking spaces are limited, it is highly recommended to book in advance.
- Free shuttle bus service for coach passengers: A free shuttle bus service will take all coach passengers from the car park P22 to a stop at Heumarkt in central Cologne and from the same stop back to the car park P22.
The shuttle bus will operate continuously from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There is no fixed schedule; one trip takes about 5–10 minutes, depending on traffic.
Please allow sufficient time to return to the car park P22.
All details can be found in four languages on the following pages of the city of Cologne and in the e-paper provided here: Information for coach drivers
We wish you a good trip and a pleasant stay in Cologne!
Traffic calendar
The City of Cologne's traffic calendar provides an overview of the most important construction sites and the current traffic situation in Cologne (in German only).
Cologne Low Emission Zone
Only vehicles bearing a green environmental sticker (Emission Group 4) can enter the Cologne Low Emission Zone. The driving ban applies not only to automobiles lacking a sticker but also to vehicles bearing only a red or yellow environmental sticker. Under certain conditions, the City of Cologne can, upon request, make exceptions for vehicles lacking stickers or bearing only red ones. In addition, cars and trucks bearing yellow stickers can continue to enter the Low Emission Zone if the vehicles in question were registered in the name of their current owners before 1 January 2008 and they demonstrably cannot be retrofitted to make them eligible for the green environmental sticker. Additional requirements do not have to be met, and no special exceptions have to be granted.
Alternatively, you can park your car at one of the P+R parking lots in Cologne and comfortably travel downtown on a bus, train or tram.
