Cologne, November 24, 2020
The current crisis has prompted a range of innovative, often digital, ideas and projects from the tourism and creative sectors. Now, six outstanding concepts from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) – two of them from Cologne – have received urbanana awards. Presented under the auspices of the state’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Prof. Dr Andreas Pinkwart, each of the six awards comes with prize money of 4,000 euros.
A total of 41 projects (including 13 from Cologne) were entered for this year’s urbanana awards. Each one of them is testimony to the continued inventiveness of the digital, creative and tourism sectors even in these difficult times. The jury was extremely impressed by the innovation and motivation shown by the nominees despite the prolonged COVID-19 crisis.
“As part of the FLOW.NRW project, this is now the third time we’ve presented these awards”, said Dr Jürgen Amann, CEO of the Cologne Tourist Board. “They’ve already spawned a series of innovative applications and business models at the interface between tourism, creative industry and the digital scene in North Rhine-Westphalia, including Cologne. This year’s two winners from Cologne will join their predecessors in enriching the local tourism offering.”
