The basis of the collection is the August Sander Archive, the world's largest collection of the famous Cologne photographer (1876-1964). With a view to Sander's objective and concept-orientated photography, the collection has expanded to include other works related to his approach by other historically important and contemporary artists such as Bernd and Hilla Becher, Kad Blossfeldt, Jim Dine and Candida Hofer. The Photographic Collection displays its own holdings as well as works on loan from other institutions in constantly changing exhibitions.
The exhibitions are also accompanied by a comprehensive programme, which includes guided tours, workshops and seminars.
