Die Photographische Sammlung / SK Stiftung Kultur

Museum/Exhibition
Open until 5:00 PM
August Sander once said, “In photography there are no shadows that cannot be illuminated,” highlighting the revealing and documentary qualities inherent in photography as a form of artistic expression. With its approximately 30,000 works by historical and contemporary photographers – featuring portraiture, industry, landscape, architecture and nature – the SK Stiftung Kultur is also dedicated to factual, documentary and conceptual photography. Roughly 10,700 negatives and 6,000 vintage prints are by August Sander alone, making this the world’s largest collection of his photos. The foundation also owns works by other photography greats such as Bernd and Hilla Becher, Karl Blossfeldt, Jim Dine and architectural photographers such as Mantz and Schmölz. Two to three times a year, the exhibition changes, showcasing works from the museum’s own collection and works from related contexts. A significant visual feast – in short: worth a visit!

The exhibitions are accompanied by a comprehensive programme, which includes guided tours, workshops and seminars.
