Bossarenova Trio

The Bossarenova Trio’s concert takes listeners into a multifaceted world of sound, where Brazilian musical traditions and European compositional aesthetics are artfully interwoven. The three musicians—Paula Morelenbaum, Joo Kraus, and Ralf Schmid—explore a repertoire that includes both classics from bossa nova and MPB as well as newly composed pieces. A defining feature is the way in which familiar works by composers such as Caetano Veloso, Ivan Lins, and Chico Buarque are “recomposed,” thereby taking on a new form of expression. The combination of voice, trumpet, piano, and subtly employed electronics creates a finely balanced soundscape that oscillates between lyrical passages, improvisational freedom, and rhythmic energy. In more recent programs such as “Oceano Atlântico” or “Levitar,” the trio displays a more urban, groove-oriented direction that evokes the vibrant music districts of Rio while simultaneously making a cross-cultural dialogue audible.
