With the special exhibition *"From Louise Bourgeois to Yoko Ono. Jewelry by Women Artists "*, the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne (MAKK) brings the fascinating world of women artists' jewelry to life for the first time. A novelty in Germany in this thematic depth, the exhibition shows around 90 pieces of jewelry by 45 pioneering female artists of the 20th and 21st centuries - including iconic positions such as Niki de Saint Phalle, Meret Oppenheim and Yoko Ono, but also surprising discoveries from contemporary art such as Alicja Kwade.
Each work is more than just jewelry - it is a vision turned miniature. Whether minimalist forms, a strong sculptural presence or a playful sense of humor: the objects condense artistic trends of the time and transform them into wearable statements. As a tribute to female creativity, the exhibition deliberately breaks with conventions and opens up a new perspective on this field, which is often dominated by male perspectives. The field of tension oscillates between art, individuality and social attribution - from surrealist dreams to contemporary concepts.
With this exhibition, the MAKK is building on the presentation "Fascination Jewelry. 7000 Years of Jewelry Art at the MAKK" and invites visitors to rediscover the museum as a place for innovative art education.
The accompanying publication, published by the renowned arnoldsche Art Publishers, brings the exhibition to life far beyond Cologne - a collector's item.
Immerse yourself in an artistic world of jewelry full of creativity, innovation and feminine expression! The exhibition runs until April 26, 2026.
