Furniture with (hi)stories

Historic interior design at the MAKK

The Museum of Applied Arts Cologne (MAKK) presents the exhibition ‘Furniture with (hi)stories’, which focuses on selected works from the historical furniture collection. The third cabinet exhibition in the ‘Selected’ series offers insights into five centuries of living and furniture culture in Europe through carefully curated individual pieces. At the heart of the exhibition are pieces of furniture whose materiality, design and production methods serve as authentic contemporary testimonies and, beyond their original function, reflect social developments, cultural contexts and changing demands on aesthetics.
