The exhibition "Intervention! How do we tell Nazi history today?" at the Cologne Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism focuses on the communication of Nazi history and questions common forms of presentation. The aim of the permanent exhibition, which has been running since 1997, was to debunk common myths and present the attitudes of the people of Cologne towards the Nazi era in a well-founded way. Today, more than 30 years later, the exhibition is supplemented by critical interventions that address current issues in the communication of history.
The focus is on exhibits and texts that invite critical discussion. Visitors are invited to actively engage with topics such as the depiction of violence, problematic terms and discriminatory representations. The intervention is intended to provide an incentive to discuss new perspectives together with curators.
Until the opening of a new permanent exhibition, this innovative approach will continue to promote reflection on historical mediation work and encourage visitors to gain a deeper understanding of historical representation.
