From Oscar-winning productions to documentaries

Nestled between the Rhine and the city’s architecture, the open-air cinema at Harry-Blum-Platz offers its own unique take on summer cinema: a floating screen on the water, around 600 seats on the steps, and a program ranging from current theatrical releases to arthouse films, classics, and documentaries. The film lineup is complemented by short live performances by artists, who on many evenings bridge the gap between arrival and the start of the film. Doors typically open in the early evening, while the film doesn’t begin until nightfall. Year after year, this creates an open space where open-air cinema becomes a communal experience—enhanced by Cologne’s proximity to the water, the striking backdrop of the Rheinauhafen, and the desire to experience stories beyond the confines of closed theaters.

Film starts: at nightfall
Doors open: starting at 7 p.m.
