As part of zamus: unlimited, this concert weaves a multifaceted dialogue between the past and the present, driven by the sonically sensitive collaboration of two instrumentalists: Pearl Huang on the transverse flute, modern flute, and alto flute, and Melchior Kupke on the harpsichord and piano. Works by Bach, Boismortier, Debussy, and Rachmaninoff weave a tapestry of musical currents in which Baroque structures, Impressionist colors, and late-Romantic forms of expression blend seamlessly. The title itself suggests that several levels intersect here—a “Bach” who continues to serve as a compositional foundation, and at the same time the image of a body of water whose course is not set in stone. This dual perspective gives rise to a program that views preservation not as stagnation, but as an active process of further reflection: How does a musical legacy change when it is reflected through contemporary sonic aesthetics? What spaces of resonance open up when old and new idioms are deliberately juxtaposed? The interpretation oscillates between historical awareness and contemporary responsiveness, creating a space that invites a reflective engagement with continuity, change, and artistic responsibility.
