On September 12, 2025, the Cologne Academy, under the proven direction of Michael Alexander Willens, will revive the almost forgotten works of baroque composer Paul Ignaz Liechtenauer. This special concert forms the second part of the series of festivities celebrating the 254th birthday and resurrection of the church of St. Gregorius am Elend. Liechtenauer, once celebrated as Kapellmeister at Osnabrück Cathedral, is now being made accessible to a new audience through the Cologne Academy and its historical performance practice.
Liechtenauer's music combines simple form with surprising musical twists and turns and a playful virtuosity that immediately inspires. These works, which are being performed for the first time since their rediscovery, offer a fascinating window into the musical world of the 18th century, full of charm and unexpected depth. The Kölner Akademie invites you to join them on a sonorous journey of discovery that uniquely combines the past and present.
