The Stadtgarten in Cologne, laid out between 1827 and 1829, is the oldest preserved public green space in the city and an important dendrological heritage. On "Open Monument Day", dendrologist Christoph Michels will guide visitors through this listed park. With its 50 different tree species, the city garden impressively demonstrates botanical diversity and the challenges of climate change. Originally conceived as a garden with the character of a forest, it combines historical tradition with contemporary ecological issues. The trees, some of them ancient and majestic, symbolize adaptability to changing environmental conditions, while the park itself remains a place of encounter and regeneration for the urban community. The tour not only offers insights into nature, but also reflects our ethical and social responsibility towards our heritage and the environment. In addition to the botanical treasures, a children's playground and access to the portal of Neu St. Alban are further attractions of this historic site. The Stadtgarten serves as a living museum and a memorial for sustainable development in times of climate change.
