South of Bonn on the east bank of the Rhine lies the picturesque wine town of Königswinter. From here you can visit Germany-s first nature reserve, Siebengebirge. High above is Hotel Petersberg, which in the course of history was often the arena for political talks - during the Afghanistan Conference in 2001, for example. With the world-s oldest rack railway, on a donkey, or on foot you can ascend Drachenfels to its Romanesque castle ruins. From there you will be able to enjoy a magnificent view of the Rhine Valley. Halfway up Drachenfels you can visit Schloss Drachenburg, which the Bonn stockbroker Stephan von Sarter had erected in the late 19th century. Today it houses a bizarre Museum that presents the story of the Nibelungen, amongst other things.
