The core of this church is a late Roman building, which was expanded to monumental dimensions in the Middle Ages. Linked with the legend of St. Gereon, it was one of Cologne-s most important religious edifices. In spite of many losses and much destruction, particularly during the Second World War, St. Gereon is still a highlight amongst Cologne-s churches.
