The exhibition "SERIAL KILLERS - The True Crime Exhibition" opens in May in the former car dealership on Oskar-Jäger-Straße and is dedicated to a subject that has oscillated between social insecurity and analytical interest for centuries. More than twenty stations lead through historical and international criminal cases that exemplify how cultural contexts, social disruptions and individual dispositions can lead to extreme acts of violence. Exhibits, documentary materials, psychological case analyses and hyper-realistic reconstructions not only convey the crimes themselves, but also reflect the mechanisms of public perception. A specially designed investigation office illustrates how profiling, intuition and criminalistic routines interact when investigators search for reliable patterns in complex case networks. The show is complemented by VR scenarios that make it possible to experience the investigative process from an inside perspective and draw attention to moral ambivalence and the fragility of certainties.
In addition to well-known cases from the USA and Europe, biographies from German-speaking countries also come into focus, whose public reception continues to shape debates about responsibility, resocialization and media representation to this day. A gallery on pop culture and narration shows how literature, film and series encode and perpetuate the image of the "serial killer". Despite the harshness of the topics, there is still room for critical self-questioning and for remembering the victims, whose perspective the exhibition deliberately emphasizes.
