In the artothek, Vanja Smiljanić unfolds a fascinating, site-specific narrative universe on the mythology of Atlantis. The installation, a visual realization of her intensive research, leads visitors through a spectacular procession of paintings. In these images, the poet, the doctor, the farmer, the scientist, and the magician are brought to life as representatives of advanced civilizations. These figures symbolize survival after the legendary downfall of Atlantis. Aboard boats, a submarine, and even a futuristic spaceship, they engage in a dialogue with the viewer about ecology, idealized social structures, and the coexistence of fluid-dynamic species.
Smiljanić draws on the deeply rooted tradition of ritual movements through public space—whether in religious or political form—to question societal visions and inspire new ways of thinking. The exhibition encourages reflection on marginalization and resistance, demonstrating how artistic narratives can retell history(ies).
